The Ford Torino was introduced in 1968 as an eventual replacement for the Ford Fairlane which came about in 1971. The Torino was a larger model that emphasized on comfort and power with a standard V8 engine as well as the big block 390 and 428 Cobra Jet engines. It was also offered in a range of body styles including sedan, coupe, hardtop, and the very popular fastback. By 1970 The Torino was restyled to reflect its uniqueness in the Ford lineup as an optional luxury or performance car. It catered to a wide range of car buyers and was offered with model options such as the Torino GT, Torino Cobra, and Torino Brougham. Station wagons were also a fairly popular model option which included the Torino wagon and Torino Squire wagon. As the years continued the Torino was restyled and retooled to fit more within the luxury car moniker. By 1976 it was discontinued and replaced by the LTD. It still holds an important place in Ford’s history as a distinct model with a lot of variety.
