Over the years the Ford Thunderbird has earned its place in U.S. history as an icon of automotive technology. Launched in 1955 the Thunderbird was a sleek sophisticated two-seater, and evoked a luxury feel with a reasonable price. As it was an instant success very little was redesigned until 1958 when the body-style was changed into a four-passenger configuration. This decision escalated the Thunderbird’s popularity and made it more available to a wider market. In the following years the Ford Thunderbird became a larger and more luxurious model with each new generation. It wasn’t until 1977 that the T-Bird began to downsize while still retaining a distinctive style and presence. By 2005 the Thunderbird was quietly discontinued, but still remains one of America’s most treasured classics.
