Possibly an abbreviation for “Luxury Trim Décor”, “Lincoln Trim Design,” or simply “Limited,” the LTD by Ford became a staple for the automaker from 1965-1986. The LTD began in 1964 as an upscale Galaxie 500 model, but quickly became its own series in 1966 and was built to be the highest trim level amongst the full-size Ford car lineup. The third generation – under the Panther platform – would be the LTD’s last as a full-size vehicle. In 1993, Ford switched the LTD to the Fox Platform and became a mid-size car where it ended its run in 1986.
