The Ford Galaxie was a full-sized vehicle built by Ford from 1959 to 1974. It was introduced with a number of models including the Galaxie Town sedan, Galaxie Club Victoria, Galaxie Town Victoria, Galaxie Sunliner convertible, and Galaxie Skyliner retractable hardtop. By 1960 the Galaxie loss some of its ornamentation and introduced the Starliner body style to its lineup. As the 1960s continued the name Galaxie applied to all full-sized Ford models as the Fairlane moved down to a mid-sized vehicle. The lines and styling as well as luxury features made the early 1960 Galaxie models widely popular with car buyers then and with many classic car enthusiasts now. As the years continued more model options became available to the public including the LTD, Galaxie 500 7 Litre, Galaxie 500XL, and Custom 500 with impressive engine choices such as the side oiler 427 engine and the 428 cubic inch Thunderbird V-8. From the late 1960s to the early 1970s the Galaxie was restyled as a luxury model designed with comfort in mind and a large array of body styles, trims, and accessories. In 1974 the Ford Galaxie was in its last year of production and was phased out for the popular LTD.
